Pak Wismoyo was a commander who had a significant influence on me personally. His teachings of always thinking good, doing good, and speaking well resonated with me deeply. He emphasized the importance of not harboring negative thoughts towards others, a lesson that has stayed with me throughout the years. I believe that the values he instilled are not only relevant but also in alignment with Indonesian and TNI cultures.
He believed that brave men should always be happy and that a leader should strive to uplift his troops through activities such as singing, sports, and group engagements. Even though some may have mocked him for paying attention to seemingly trivial matters, such as hand clapping, I understood the significance of such gestures in boosting morale and camaraderie among troops.
Pak Wismoyo’s philosophy of creating a happy atmosphere and actively participating in his men’s activities left a lasting impression on me. He emphasized the unity between a leader and his men, advocating for leaders to be actively involved in fostering a positive and lively environment. His motto, “discipline is my breath, loyalty is my soul, honor is everything,” continues to guide me in my leadership endeavors.
In addition to his philosophical teachings, Pak Wismoyo led by example. Despite his injury, he insisted on participating in training exercises such as parachute jumps, showcasing his dedication and commitment to his role. He also encouraged physical activities such as swimming, volleyball, and marksmanship, urging me to excel in shooting skills as a member of the Infantry Corps.
I was deeply impressed by his humility and forgiveness, as he often gave second chances to those who made mistakes. His emphasis on not speaking ill of others, along with his encouragement to maintain humility, has had a profound impact on my approach to leadership.
Overall, Pak Wismoyo’s teachings and actions have shaped my understanding of leadership and the importance of fostering a positive and inclusive environment within any organization. His lessons on bravery, happiness, and camaraderie continue to inspire me in my leadership journey.
