Reemploying Laid-off Sritex Workers: Ministers Meeting Update

Ministers from the Red and White Cabinet convened at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta to discuss the plight of PT Sritex employees who were recently laid off. The main objective of the meeting was to address the directive from Prabowo to find solutions for the affected workers, with key figures such as Minister of Manpower Yassierli, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and PT Sritex Curator Nurma Sadikin in attendance.

During the meeting, Prasetyo underscored the president’s deep concern for the welfare of the workers and stressed the critical need to resolve the challenges faced by PT Sritex following its declaration of bankruptcy in October 2024. The primary aim is to rehire approximately 8,000 employees with a new job arrangement in the textile industry. Minister Yassierli praised the curator’s proactive efforts in potentially rehiring former Sritex employees within the next two weeks.

Furthermore, Prabowo’s unwavering commitment to providing support and guidance is anticipated to bring much-needed relief to the laid-off PT Sritex employees. The Ministry of Manpower is actively protecting the rights of workers from PT Sritex Group by ensuring they receive appropriate layoff compensation and other entitlements. The PT Sritex Curator Team is currently engaged in the selection of investors to oversee Sritex’s assets under a new framework, paving the way for the reemployment of the affected workers. This initiative is designed to bring stability to the impacted employees and offer a viable solution to their current predicament.
