Indonesia and the European Union have successfully concluded the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) after a decade of negotiations, as announced during a joint press conference in Brussels. President Prabowo Subianto lauded the agreement as a significant achievement in the midst of global uncertainty, emphasizing the mutual benefits and complementary nature of the economic interests between both parties. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen commended Prabowo’s leadership in finalizing the deal, highlighting the vast economic potential and strategic importance of Indonesia in global supply chains, particularly in supporting clean energy and digital transitions.
CEPA will provide broader market access for Indonesian products across various sectors such as agriculture, automotive, services, and critical raw materials, aiming to strengthen supply chains while promoting socially and environmentally responsible sourcing. With a combined market of 730 million people between Indonesia and the EU, the agreement is expected to be a game changer in trade relations for both regions. President Prabowo expressed hope for the official signing of the CEPA agreement to take place in Brussels, symbolizing a long-term commitment between the two partners.
