Prabowo: 2026 Education Budget Reaches Rp 757.8 Trillion

President Joko Widodo highlighted the government’s commitment to prioritize education in his State Budget 2026 Financial Note address during the House of Representatives’ plenary session. The proposed budget of Rp 757.8 trillion for education is the largest allocation in Indonesia’s history. Emphasizing the significance of high-quality education in producing competitive human resources and reducing poverty, President Joko Widodo reaffirmed the constitutional mandate to allocate 20% of the state budget to education. He outlined key priorities such as improving teacher welfare and quality, enhancing vocational training, and aligning curricula with labor market demands to ensure effective utilization of education funds. The allocation includes funding for educational programs benefiting millions of students, scholarships, and the upgrading of school facilities. President Joko Widodo also highlighted initiatives to strengthen access to quality education for underprivileged children through People’s Schools and Garuda Excellence Schools. Additionally, the government aims to expand opportunities for Indonesian students to study abroad by providing scholarships through the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education. Lastly, President Joko Widodo stressed the importance of advancing Indonesia’s capabilities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) for future competitiveness.
