President Prabowo’s administration is dedicated to implementing various health programs such as CKG, the “Stop TB” campaign, enhancing regional public hospitals, and offering incentives to medical professionals serving in remote areas. Despite celebrating 80 years of independence, Indonesia is still grappling with health issues that impact both the economy and society. Illnesses take a toll on productivity and GDP, with studies indicating a significant percentage loss due to absenteeism, reduced performance, and premature retirement.
The economic burden is further exacerbated by smoking-related costs, obesity, and tropical diseases. This highlights the importance of viewing health investments as critical economic assets. Hariqo also highlighted the prevalence of health issues among Indonesian children, citing diabetes, obesity, and lack of dental hygiene. He stressed the need for CKG not only as a preventive measure but also as a means of educating the public on health matters.
The ultimate goal is to see progress in reducing illness rates with each passing Independence Day, enabling citizens to actively contribute to national development and economic growth. A healthy population leads to a higher life expectancy and increased human resource productivity, directly impacting GDP growth. Improving public health could potentially boost GDP by 1-2% annually, demonstrating the economic benefits of a healthier nation.
